    Hi,

I unable to get any plugins installed and don’t know what I am doing wrong. I have extracted the files and uploaded them to the wp-content\plugins folder, but when I then go to the plugins page of wordpress I still only see the three default plugins. I have tried this with several plugins, and have even tried removing the default plugins, but still the list is the same. This seems to indicate to me that I am modifying the wrong location (as no changes to the files are reflected in the control panel) but I don’t see how I can be. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    sam

Are you unzipping them before you upload them to the wp-content/plugins directory?

Make sure you check their docs too. Some plugins stay in their own directory under wp-content/plugins, others go their directly.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have unzipped them. I have tried putting the contents of the folder in the directory directly, I have tried outting the folder they are in in the plugins directory. The plugins just say to place them in the folder. nothing else. Can you confirm that if I delete the hellodolly.php that the plugin should be removed from list of plugins in the wordpress plugins panel?

Yes, if you delete hellodolly, you shouldn’t see it in you Admin Plugins list.

That’d be a good way to make sure you’re working with the right directories. 🙂

Thats exactly what I did, as I thought I could check that way, yet it still shows up in the list.

So what could I be doing wrong?

There is only 1 plugins directory on the server.

    Silly things to ponder:

    a) positive you’re on the correct server? (don’t laugh – happens all the time with DNS moves and such).

    b) truly positive there aren’t any other WP installs on that server?

    c) in your browser, while at the plugins page, hit ctrl-F5 to force a local cache clear (aka hard refresh).

Some progress made. I have discovered that I am getting different IP if I use the www. prefix than if I dont.

Hitting hosting company with a large stick now.

    Thanks for the help HandySolo

Add an axe blade to the end of the large stick. 😉

Glad to hear you’ve made some progress.
