    Hi,

I’m not sure which wordpress version I’m using. I downloaded the latest version but don’t know if that installed it or not.

I’m looking to add my online store to my site and don’t have any plugins. I also don’t have permalink in my settings category. How do I get those on my dashboard so that I can download an e-commerce theme from another website I’m interested in using? Also, I use Dreamhost as my hosting site if that helps. I first step up my wordpress account then my hosting account afterwards. I don’t know if that helps but thought I might share that info if that helps.

    Thanks,

    Simone

  • Where is your current WordPress site located? It isn’t a free blog site hosted on WordPress.com, is it?

Yes, I think it is. That’s how it started out. I first installed wordpress several months ago then signed up with dreamhost after but I don’t think I linked the together. I’m not sure if I have to do that or how.

You have to transfer your site to us at DreamHost for it to work 🙂 What;’s your domain? I can take a look at how far in the process you are to be able to help you better.

    Hi Mika,

My domain name is eveningsparrowdesigns.com. Thanks for your assistance.

    Simone

    Thanks Simone!

The problem is that your domain isn’t pointing to DreamHost yet.

If you go to https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=domain.manage and click on the DNS button under your domain, you’ll see an alert about this.

In order to fix it, you need to go back to wordpress.com – http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/ – and tell it to use the following nameservers:

    ns1.dreamhost.com
    ns2.dreamhost.com

Then you’ll have your site pointing to us. After that, you’ll want to export your data from your WordPress.com site and import it into your site here at DreamHost 🙂

    Hi Mika,

I tried the instructions you gave me but every time I do this, it comes up with This does not match any of the DNS record formats.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. The instructions seem pretty clear cut. Also, once I fix this, how do I export my wordpress.com site to dream host.

    Thanks again,

    Simone

I think you tried to link to an image… which I can’t see.

    Try these directions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

Also, once I fix this, how do I export my wordpress.com site to dream host.

    That’s the easier part 🙂

    Hi Mika,

Ok, I was able to change my hosting and now I have the plugins, etc.

Just one more question (for now anyway). If I never wrote anything on my original blog site from wordpress.com, do I need to export my blog or can I start anew and just add a blog page to my new site?

Thanks again for all of your help.

    Simone

If you never wrote anything then you are good to go already! 🙂 Just make your first post and party on!
