• Hello,

Let me see if I’ve got this right.
There are two separate parts to WordPress.org and they both have entirely seperate login places and details, correct?

One, I login with ‘admin’ and the other one, this one, I log in with “Greycap1” Plus two different passwords.

That is just the start of my utterly total and frustrating confusion.

I managed to upload about 15 Plugins through FileZilla into the plugin folder, but the wretched things are nowhere to be seen. Not around my actual blog area, anyway.

I’ve looked in every box, such as ‘Write’ ‘Manage’ ‘Design’ ‘Comments’ and all the sub folders, such as: ‘Posts’ ‘Pages’ ‘Links’ ‘Categories’ ‘Tags’ ‘Link Categories’ ‘Media Library’ ‘Import’ ‘Export’, but the blasted plugins are nowhere to be found and I wished only to activate them and get going, but am feeling rather frustrated, at present. Can you tell?
I even heard there is one useless plugin about the film, ‘Hello Dolly’, but cannot even locate that.

Having WordPress in two separate sections, with different login details seems like the old Dragons and Dungeons’ with secret rooms, but I really don’t have time to play games, just want to become productive. Why is WordPress in two separate sections/areas, anyway?

Perhaps these plugin thingies are now called something else?

i would be eternally grateful, if someone could point be in the right direction, as there is more riding on my success, or otherwise with WordPress, than I wish to disclose here.

Thank you chaps. Sorry for venting, but I feel a bit better now.

BTW My first effort seems to be coming along, but I’m at a dead stop now, until some kind soul can help me find my way.
It is at: http://raygc1.com/milart/ If anyone should wish to visit and critique it for me. I’d be most grateful. Need another four, very similar DamBuster sites up, with comprehensive linking from one to another, to make up the set. Don’t need Adsense, or other affiliate links on them, just plenty of interested military aviation visitors.

Reading through a good book called “How to Develop Money-Making Niche
Sites with WordPress”, but no help there, except to activate the plugins, but they seem to have vanished!

    Cheers,

    Ray.

    Hello Ladies and gentlemen,

O.K., Well I found the plugin button. It was hidden on the top, right hand, side of the screen and i don’t see so well anymore.

However. There are but two plugins in there. just the original two!
    Hello Dolly and one other.

What happened to my 15 new ones, that i uploaded into the corrent plugins folder? Not a sign of those and I need to activate them, in some way. Any suggestions, please?.

    Help, please. I need some.

    Cheers,

    Ray.

…Having WordPress in two separate sections, with different login details

That is correct, my friend. The login and password for your blog is yours entirely, and has no connection with your account here at wordpress.org. Your account here is obviously “Greycap1” and whatever password you chose to protect your account.

The two are not connected in anyway, with the exception, that there are some great people here who will usually do their best to lend a hand when you have a question.

Something went SNAFU while uploading to your plugins folder. Have a look here; http://raygc1.com/milart/wp-content/plugins/ You are correct in that there are only the two original plugins present in the folder. Have a look around your files and folders and see if they landed short.

Double check the path you uploaded to with filezilla, maybe they were just off the mark, or for some reason didn’t transfer at all. Don’t forget to unzip them first. (Follow the instructions to avoid the “nested folder” effect).

Here is an excellent video tutorial by a member who took the time to record a screen-cast of how it should be done. (It can be a common source of frustration when first starting out).

And by the way, I think you have a great start. The actual content area seems a bit narrow, but everything evolves eventually.

    Best of luck.

[Edit] I just checked your plugins folder again, I don’t know what you did, but they sure are there now!

    Hello Clayton,

First, may I thank you for both your patience and your knowledge.

I admit to getting in a ‘bit of a flap’ over it and apologise to all readers.

You were right, neither the themes, or plugins had correctly uploaded, although I thought they had.

They are OK now, thanks to your good advice.

Thank you for your kind words about my site. Yes, I agree that the three column is far too narrow, but that is the only aviation theme I could find. I really need one with a Dambuster, or composite of Lancaster parts, but being on a pension, i can’t afford to have one designed. Any idea if there is a good, freebie theme site out there, or a reasonable designer, for later on? I was quite surprised that the PayPal links copied over so well and actually work perfectly.

My next questions will be concerning correct linking between my, yet to be constructed, WP blogs. I was advised to erect five of them, with the same theme, but using different keywords in each. Then to link the four longer tailed keyword blogs with each other, sort of in a circle, so to speak, and then have those four also point a link to the top one with the more competitive keyword, as that one can use as many links as possible. Good idea, or not? Need it to work, for my rent money.

Also, how to find out how to alter and utilise the sidebars, which contain only ‘ipso facto’ type Latin, at present and I have yet to find out how to put them to work. Perhaps that will be covered in the video you pointed me toward and which I have yet to enjoy. Thank you also for that.

    Cheers for now,

    Ray.

    You are most welcome, Ray.

…how to alter and utilise the sidebars, which contain only ‘ipso facto’ type Latin, at present and I have yet to find out …

If you look in that theme folder, there is a file named “right.php”. Open that with a text editor… don’t use MS Word, or any other word processor, just a plain old text editor is required, (notepad is fine unless you have a favorite), and you will see the areas that can be edited. I would advise making sure you have a backup copy of that file stored locally so that you can start again if you are unsatisfied (or if things get broken, as they often do!). I will keep my eye out for themes that might be relative to your content.

    Best wishes,
    Cj.
