    Just tried my first install. Followed the instructions to the letter. Got to the admin panel and everything, I can even make posts. There’s just no index file. When I click ‘View Site,’ I simply get a directory listing. No index is listed.

    I should note that I currently don’t have a domain pointing to that address, so it’s only an IP. Could this have caused some issue during the install?

  • Well, it could, but first you need to make sure a couple of things:

    1. That your server is set to allow index.php as a viable index file;

    2. and that you’ve actually uploaded the index.php;

    3. and that there’s not an index.htm or index.html in the folder.

    Like I said, I see no index file in the directory. I just followed the instructions, unzipped the directory, uploaded it to the site’s right, and navigated to
    “/wp-admin/install.php” and ran through that.

    What about point 1. above? And if there’s no index file (of any extension) in the directory, then something didn’t upload properly, so the install couldn’t have proceeded properly.

    Yeah, sorry about that. Point #1 wasn’t really a concern, the server was set up properly.

    I just deleted the DB, all the files, and started from scratch. Seemed to work this time. Must have been an FTP error. Weird.

    Thank you for your help vkaryl. 🙂

    Well, of course, that DOES sometimes fix things. It’s known as “gremlins in the machine” (as opposed to deus….) hmmm….

    You’re welcome, glad it’s fixed, looks like it’s time for me to get some sleep.
