No dashboard access after login

Hi,
I am the administrator of our blog. I have recently changed the roles of some of my subscribers, to “authors,” because i need help with the writing process. The problem is, that when my authors log into their account, they cannot see their dashboard or start writing. I’m going insane because i can’t figure out how to activate that for them. How can I activate the dashboard for the rest of my users?
