Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated?
Plugins all disables. twenty-fourteen theme enabled and same issue persists.
Anythoughts? Do I need to get risky and mess with the /wp-admin/post.php file?
no! Never, ever, edit WordPress core scripts. Editing core scripts can bring down your entire site and/or open security holes for hackers to use. Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the root wp-config.php & .htaccess files and the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
This can be done without taking down the site? I cant just overwrite the files?
Over writing isn’t always 100% effective. Ideally, you need to delete and re-upload.
I deleted and replaced the wp-admin and wp-includes directories with fresh files downloaded from the latest release of WP from the site.
Still the same issue persists.
Please let me know if there are any other credentials I can give for you to more easily see what is going on.

Are you able the view your server log files? This may present some bread crumbs that should lead you to the root cause.
