nextpage quicklink

Documentation states that posts can be divided into pages with the <!–nextpage–> quicklink. Does it mean literally that it works only for posts, but not for pages? It works in my posts, but not in pages. Just wondering if that’s how it is meant to work, or is there possibly something in my theme that won’t allow pages to be split up?
