NextGen plugin menu won't appear

I’ve been using NextGen on my site since I created it. Up until today, it was working fine. Existing galleries are working fine. However, when I try to insert a new gallery, the menus in the NextGen control box won’t appear. The popup box appears on the screen. When I try to select my gallery from the “Select or enter gallery” pull down menu, the arrow down key turns into a spinning wheel and won’t stop. No error message, no time-out, no nothing. The longest I let it go was about 10 minutes. I’ve tried to re-open the plugin in IE9, FireFox 4 and Chrome. None work. I believe there was a flash update today but I haven’t been able to track that down yet. I’m using Win7. Not sure of which version Java is installed.
