In December last year, my work’s website was hacked and repaired. However the news archive on our site isn’t archiving any recent articles. The latest article archived was the last article published before the hack.

I’ve had our website guy tell me to try putting some of the articles in the trash, however I don’t see what benefit that would do? Especially as it seems counter intuitive, unless there some sort of technical reason behind it?

Anyway, our news archive can be found here:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Im going to assume you have checked your theme and plugins are not the issue here? deleting old articles would not effect the issue at all. your web guy is either passing the buck, or full of BS. one of my websites is a news website and unless you have way too many aricles (in excess of a few thousand) this shouldnt be happening. I would suggest looking into whether or not category selection or the actual plugin itself is doing this. for better help, you might need to me more specific.

what is the code of the all-news.php template file?

Update. I’ve done some trial and error and discovered that the IT guy the news archive is essentially a template on a page.

I’ve found that my ‘Latest News’ widget publishes the latest news articles on the home page like it is supposed to and I would like to put that widget on a page, however it doesn’t seem to be working. Any suggestions on how to insert the widget onto the page? On our events page, we have an events plugin and event list widget and the widget shows up on the page by having the shortcode [event-list] on the page, however I can’t see a shortcode for the Latest News widget. Any suggestions?

Michael–How would I find the code?

goto ‘dashboard – appearance – editor’, make sure your theme is selected at top right; look for the file name in the list on the right …

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply, however I don’t have the editor option in my theme in the Appearance section for some unknown reason.

Another update, I’ve managed to find the way to put the Latest News widget on my page but now there’s another problem of my links being white on a white background and try as I might to change the colour, I can’t. Anyone got any suggestions on how to change a hyperlink colour without using the .css? Are there any plugins that could help with this? I’m not using the TwentyFourteen theme so that relevant plugin won’t help.

    Thank you.

however I don’t have the editor option in my theme in the Appearance section for some unknown reason.

    are you logged-in as administrator?

without the ‘editor’ option, you might need to use FTP https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients to look through the files of your theme.
