Newbie question: Email subscriptions

I haven’t installed WordPress yet, but I will soon. It looks like excellent software.

I was wondering if there’s a plug-in (or indeed a native feature) that allows visitors to subscribe (for email notification) to particular blogs? Can they also “subscribe” to the entire site, meaning that they would get notified if new blogs/posts are created?

Nothing like this is mentioned in the WordPress feature list, and I’m new(ish) to this sort of software, so I’m not sure if email notifications is such an obvious feature that it goes without saying.

Also, is there a list of plug-ins anywhere? I’ve looked, but I can’t seem to find one.
