Newbie : How to edit ?

    I am a casual web designer, just now given the task of editing a WordPress website.
    1. How do I discover the version # ?

    I see that the site’s pages are in PHP. The documentation states that PHP and mySQL are needed to edit the files. Neither are installed on the PC which I am using, and I doubt that they can be.
    2. If I can download the webpages, will I be able to edit them offline ?

    I have programmed in a number of languages, but PHP is not one of them.
