New user cant log in

I have one page which is the page above which is private, I am using a plugin that if the user isnt logged in they will go to a log in page and then be re-directed back to the page where it all started.

Whilst testing Im setting up a user:

Username: [removed from public forum]
Password: [removed from public forum]

Set that user up myself, but when I use those details the log in page just refreshes and so doesnt log in and then get re-directed.

I read somewhere about the .htaccess file but I havent got one, and someone also said about permalinks, so have set and updated that and still nothing.
