New to WordPress

    I’m a Mac user (Mac OS X 10.4.11) and I’d like to build a website using WordPress. I’ve also been looking for system requirements and its been hard to get a straight answer and all about this MySQL and P something confuses me – guess I could figure it out if I have too – Is it going to cost me money to get it?

    I have seen that if I am using someone else for my web hosting (such as godaddy.com) I don’t need to use or know about the MySQL? Is that correct?

    Can I build my website using WordPress without all of the headache of having to learn about MySQL?

    WordPress itself is free but obtaining suitable hosting and a domain name is going to cost something, yes.

    Correct. Millions of WordPress users wouldn’t know one end of a MySQL database from another. The only thing you do have to know is how to set up a new, blank database on your current hosts – and your hosting providers should be able to help with this.

    Absolutely!

    Thank you for your quick response.

    So then, what your basically saying, is all I have to do is download the latest version of WordPress and I can start building my Web pages?

    I don’t need to find a web hosting service and get my domain name first do I, to begin creating my webpages and my links?

    Unless you intend to start by installing WordPress locally, you will need access to a web server and a domain name before you can install WordPress and being creating your site.
