    Hi,
I hope you will be able to help. (fairly new to WP)
I recently installed multisite on cpanel but when I go to add a new site on the network dashboard and then try to visit the new site dashboard it comes up with link not found.
I had a look on my filemanager in cpanel and the subdomains there which I am trying to add as new sites only show as having a cgi-bin folder. I have no idea if this could be the issue but I would have thought that each subdomain needs WP to work.(of course this may not be relevant to my problem)
    Any help gratefully received.

  • Hi Rocky074 have you reviewed the documentation at http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

I’m willing to bet your CPanel didn’t make all three changes automatically.

Hi Joseph, thank you for the reply. I took a look at that and as far as I could make out the multisite intall took place, the dashboard shows all the relevant info for creating new sites etc. It is just when I do so I only get a broken link message on the new site dashboard.
    Thanks for your help though.

Sometimes this sort of thing happens to me. Try the following

    Go to
Settings > permalinks and select a different option under “Common Settings” then hit the “Save Changes” button.

Sometimes with Multi Site the domain structure gets mixed up

    If that doesn’t work.

You may have have a sub domain / sub folder mismatch.

    subsite.whatever.com or
    whatever.com/subsite/

Here is a relevant url in the codex documentation, if that’s the issue but be careful when editing wp-config.php backup your original file and be sure you have ftp access to delete and replace it if there is an error.

    Hi Joseph,
Thanks for that. I did as you said, I went and changed the permalinks to default and hey presto the site links worked. However, it went back to broken links when I re-instated my preference of post name. πŸ™

What is your post name preference?

    Hi Joseph,
I lost the website overnight but after a bit of looking around this morning I had to re-install the theme and it works fine now complete with the chosen permalinks settings πŸ™‚
    Thanks

Now all I need to do is sort out why I cant add new sites to multisite :/ πŸ™‚

I wonder if it’s a file permissions issue.

Creating a new multi site might require additional permissions that is not required on a standard site.

Rocky074 – Can you go back and clarify exactly what’s happening when you create a new site?

(Joseph – Seeing as Multisite doesn’t create anything except the uploads folder, it’s possibly but very unlikely.)

I have it sorted now thanks to your suggestion of pointing the addon domains to /public_html/
    Thank you
