Creating a role shouldn’t do that on its own — capabilities only apply to users who actually hold the role. So the first thing to rule out is that the role landed on more users than you intended.
Check Users → All Users filtered by the new role. Members lets a user hold more than one role at once, so the new role can sit alongside their existing one — and a bulk action on the users list applies to everything selected on the page.
Also worth confirming you were on Add New Role, not editing a role most of your users already share like Subscriber, and that the role ID you entered didn’t match an existing role.
To contain it now, edit the role and uncheck the capabilities rather than deleting it. And note Members writes directly to WordPress’ role storage — deactivating the plugin won’t roll any of this back.
If none of that matches, let me know your WordPress and Members versions, which capabilities you granted, and whether it persists with other plugins disabled.
