New Instagram Format
-
Hi, Instagram recently released “thinking outside the square” that now allow users to post in both landscape and portrait format which is great. But the problem is, I would like your instagram feed on my website showing all square images although I’m posting full landscape/portrait format. How can I do that?
Thanks

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply. From what I can see, I don’t even have the Plugins tab listed in my WordPress dashboard. Is this because I’m on a free membership? I tried pasting the shortcode into a text widget on my sidebar as suggested, but it didn’t work – all it does is displays the code as text on the site. What am I doing wrong?
Dallas.
Edit – I’d removed the existing Publication widget before trying the shortcode trick.
If you’re just seeing the shortcode as text then it sounds like you don’t have our plugin installed. If you don’t have access to your WordPress Plugins page then it sounds like you’re probably not logged in to your site as an Administrator, or you have limited permissions. Who set up the site for you? You would need to contact them to ask how you can access your WordPress Plugins page and install plugins. Once you have our plugin installed then you’ll be able to follow the setup directions I linked to above to configure your feed and can then display it using the shortcode.

Hi John,
Yeah, we’re definitely logged in as Admin. We created the site ourselves, so we’ve created a main Admin login, plus additional author logins for when we’re publishing under our own names. I logged out and logged back in again to double check it, and it’s definitely the Admin login – but still no visible Plugin menu on the WP Dashboard. Are you sure WordPress haven’t removed this feature for free accounts (recently) & just haven’t told you about it? A lot has been monetized since I last had an account, so I’m guessing this could be a possibility. Keep me posted.
Cheers,
Dallas.Hi Dallas
As far as I’m aware, plugins are only available to self-hosted wordpress.org sites, not wordpress.com sites such as the one you are using.
To make use of the plugin you will need to buy your domain and then move things across to the new wordpress dashboard.
Hope that helps!
DeborahHey Dallas,
Didn’t realize you were on a hosted WordPress.com account. As Deborah said, plugins from WordPress.org will only work if you self host WordPress on your own server. See the following links for the difference between a WordPress.com site and a self-hosted WordPress.org site.

https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordpress-org-vs-wordpress-com-2015/You won’t be able to use our plugin on a WordPress.com site I’m afraid. The good news is that most web hosts offer a 1-click WordPress install for free so it’s super easy to get it set up on your own hosting.

Thanks for your replies Deborah & John. I didn’t realise they were 2 separate entities (.com &.org) – do you know what the reason for that is? As an end user, it’s a little bit confusing to say the least.
How complicated would it be to transfer my site across to WordPress.org then? What steps are involved? I’ve already paid for domain mapping to my new URL, so will the transfer have any effect on that?
Dallas.
Hey Dallas,
My best recommendation would be to sign up for a hosting account with a hosting company and have them walk you through the process of migrating your site (or they may even offer to do it for you). As WordPress is so widely used then this is a pretty common thing for hosts to handle and most have migration systems in place to make it as easy as possible for you.
There’s also an article here which you might find useful.
Let me know whether that helps.

Hi,
The plugging was showing the images in square format but something happened and it no longer show them square. I updated the token and it worked for a day and it went back to all kind of shapes. Is it my theme messing it up or could it be something else? Like Instagram updating their TOKEN?
Best,
Diana
Hey Diana,
The plugin should be working as it usually does. Could you send me a link to the page you are having trouble with?
Hi,
Thank you for answering so quickly. Here’s the link http://gattabag.com/ (scroll to the bottom)
I tried viewing the page on Sadafari and it looked fine. I had this happened to me before where I can see ir correctly on one browser but distorted on chrome.
Best,
Diana
It looks like you have Cloud Flare installed. This is known to cause some issues with WordPress plugins: http://snippets.webaware.com.au/snippets/stop-cloudflare-rocketscript-breaking-wordpress-plugin-scripts/.
Could you try disabling Cloud Flare for the instagram.js file and see if it corrects the issue?
Hi
Yes, I tried disabling Cloud Flare and emptied all caches and nothing worked.
It looks like the link now shows a landing page for maintenance mode. Would it be possible to take a look once again? You can use our support form https://smashballoon.com/instagram-feed/support/ if you need to share sensitive login info to take a look.
Hi,
Sorry since we have not launched the site yet we put it up but we have disabled it.
Thank ,
Hello again,
It looks like the javascript file for Instagram is still configured to use rocket script (https://snag.gy/ipLo5b.jpg). Did you reenable rocketscript for the Instagram Feed or did something not work by chance?
