• Hi everyone,

The company I work for currently has a Non-Wordpress website running. I’ll just call it www.MyCompanySite.com. It is being hosted at Host01.

We are creating a new WordPress based website. It will be based at Host02, but will still use the same domain name of www.MyCompanySite.com.

We are looking to create this new website asap, but don’t want to interrupt the current website, as we need it running whilst the new site is being created.

Upon installing WordPress on a brand new host, Host02, it is asking for the domain name. The domain name it will be using is www.MyCompanySite.com, but this domain name is still being used for the website on Host01.

Do I still tell WordPress to use the domain name www.MyCompanyHost.com? I don’t want to do anything to interrupt the old websites functionality.

We simply want to create a new wordpress site on a new host, and once completed, we will link the domain name to this new host.

    Any information appreciated.

    Thank you

    S

  • A couple options:

    1) You can give the same url to your new WordPress installation. Do your work; and when you’re ready…. you’ll change the DNS nameservers (where you registered your domain) to point to your “Host02” account; rather than your “Host01” account.

    2) You can tell WordPress to use a url like “www.MyCompanySite.com/wp”. Install your files there; do your work; and when you’re ready… you’ll want to Move WordPress.
