Hi,

Have you come across any possible issues where 4+ servers use a network drive (e.g AWS EFS)?

I’m sensing a possible issue when 2 or more different servers receive a new request for generating a combined css/js file and both try to write to a single file at the same time.

have not come accross that yet, but theoretically this could indeed happen, although I guess the 2nd write should just silently fail and the 1st write will create the file?

Can you briefly let me know how the file names are generated? I’m assuming it to be a hash of the content. So they would be same across two different servers as long as the css/js output is same, correct?

If you open the file in “write” mode (say you wanted to add content to the middle) then you actually have to lock the file to do this. The second PHP script will throw an error saying that it couldn’t open the file.

Does this exception need to be handled?

no, it even if one of the 2 writes fail, the file will exist as per the other write 🙂
