Need advice on renaming 'Register'

michael, that’s awesome and does exactly what i needed – thank u!

some questions though:

– how did you know where to look to identify the required function?
(sorry if that sounds a dumb question!)

am I correct in saying that you can only modify or overwrite functions that start with ‘wp_’??

so, for the register, there is a function called wp_register – this returns a string – and therefore writing a filter for it is possible?

+ if a function DOESN’T have wp_ in front of, then we can’t modify or overwrite and have to find an alternative solution?

– i also need to change the text ‘Register For This Site’
this is given in the wp-login.php file and set with this function call:

login_header(__(‘Registration Form’), ‘<p class=”message register”>’ . __(‘Register For This Site’) . ‘</p>’, $errors);

is there anyway i can write a plugin to modify the above text?

ELSE, what would be the best way to create a file that is the same as wp-login.php – except, i’d have this file in my theme directory?

could i simply copy the file and place it in my theme directory?
i couldn’t work out if all the references to different parts of other code were absolute or relative – if absolute, i would assume, i could place a copy of the file anywhere? else i would have to update all references?

not sure if i’ve asked too many questions above or given too much detail to make the question difficult to understand!
