Can you check your server error logs or request them from your host and post the error you are getting here?
How would I go about doing that? I am not sure how.
You should ask your host – Some hosts will provide a cPanel or Plesk type interface where you can view the logs yourself, or they should be able to just provide you with them.
The files most likely aren’t gone. WordPress doesn’t remove itself from a server. I can still see your /nathan/readme.html with no problem.
Your sever response is a “500 Internal Server Error”, and php files render a blank screen.
Some initial trouble-shooting steps you can take are outlined in this information: The White Screen of Death. There’s also a debugging step suggested there that might help shed some light on the cause: Editing wp-config.php > Debug
ok I’ve done some digging and the error is in the php of my theme, how do I connect to my site over an ftp server? I have a backup of my website on my harddrive so if I can upload the backup through ftp It should restore the site.
I’ve contacted the person who does my hosting and we are currently figuring out how I will connect to the site via FTP. Thank you so much for your help so far, when I figure out what caused the php error ill post it here.
If you’re sure it’s your theme, uploading the backup is probably overkill. If you’ve never used an FTP client, here is some info that might get you started: FTP Clients. That along with your hosts FAQ should help you get your ftp account in working order.
In the meantime, you can log into your hosting account and use the file manager in your control panel to accomplish the same thing. If you just rename or remove only the ACTIVE theme directory, that should allow you to re-visit http://www.mrsawyer.info/nathan/wp-admin and you should be able to log back in. At that point, the default WordPress theme should take over. I think I might try that before just replacing everything with the backup copy. Maybe save that for a last resort.
Again, this is assuming that you are sure it’s a theme related issue.
I’m sure it is theme related because the only PHP code I’ve edited is in the theme, everything else was just CSS.
In that case, I think I might first try renaming or removing just that particular theme directory and then see if you can get back in at /wp-admin.
