Is it intentional that the content area is only a few cm wide in the middle? (Viewed in FF on Win and/or Mac) It looks very odd…

It should be ~280 px wide for the actual posts, total of 400 px for the posts+sidebar. Too narrow you think? I have been thinking of widening it a bit, but I tend to like narrow columns to keep the eye from travelling so much.
Width is a matter of personal preference, I suppose. I hate fixed width sites, myself. My screen is 1650 wide, and I generally leave my browser between 900 and 1000 wide, so a site that takes up just a tiny portion of it tends to annoy me. Sites that are too narrow require a lot of scrolling, and not everybody has a scrollwheel on their mouse.

good point. I was going to tighten up the space between posts, so i may go in and stretch it out a bit as well. No sure about making it all fluid though, my css wrangling may not be up to it.

alrighty, I just altered it a bit, so it should be fluid (havent checked on IE yet). The content and sidebar should be about 50% of the window now, with the side bar fixed to around 108px. It should look less annoying on high res displays now.
Or maybe not.
I dunno.
I like it, though I think the content column could be a little wider.
