My Client's WP Theme Vanished

    Hi,

    My client hired a WP neophyte to make some changes to his site. In the process, the person ran a WordPress update. When he check the website afterwards, his (very custom) theme had vanished.

    Can someone explain how this could have happened?

    What theme was it? If there were changes made changes to a default theme’s files, they get overwritten when the WP is updated. Same with a theme update. That’s why we recommend using a Child Theme for changes to theme files… Is there a backup?

    Thanks.

    The theme in place was a custom theme, so I’m assuming it had a uniquue name. I’ll see if I can find out.

    Maybe the guy renamed it the same name as a default theme? Is that possible?

    Unfortunately, almost anything is possible :). He could have deleted or overwritten files in other ways too. Hard to say without more info or access. I’d say your best bet is to look for a backup – including asking the hosting company if they have one you can restore from…
