Multisite toolbar display issue

I have a multisite subdomain install. I just noticed that the seo icon wasnt appearing on the left menu sidebar in WordPress. I have tried network deactivating/reactivating, purging apc and nginx cache, rebooting webserver and removing and reinstalling wordpress seo. I can see the plugin in network admin plugins page and can activate it. It does not appear in any of the sites sidebars. I can however slap /wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpseo_titles#top#general to the end of my site/s url and see all the seo options which tells me its all working. I am guessing this happened after the last update. Any insight as to where the toolbar icon has gone very welcome
