• Hi everyone,

I recently installed a multisite on a temporary server for testing. I edited the .config and .htaccess files correctly, hopefully, and the WP is working fine. I am using subdomains. The original/main site is looks the same, which is good. However, the problem is when I added a new site.

I am currently looking under my new site’s info tab. It seems to be the correct subdomain URL, however, under the settings tab, the SITE URL and HOME are redirecting to my main page instead of the subdomain. When I go to the subdomain URL, it says the site doesn’t exist. However, when I click on the visit my site tab inside my WP dashboard , it takes me to my main site instead of the subdomain.

Also, when I go to my subdomains dashboard, it has all the same posts, pages, media, and everything. I thought the subdomain was suppose to only share certain aspects like plugins and themes, but not everything?

I am really confused and after hours of scanning the internet for solutions, no one seems to be having the same issue as me.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Do you have a domain set up for your temporary server or are you accessing it by IP address?

Follow these steps and tell me what the outcome is:

    1. Enter into your WordPress Admin
    2. Move your mouse to the top left and hover over My Sites -> Any subdomain site and then click “Visit Site”

    What happens?

Yes, it is a temporary domain issued by GoDaddy. I am not accessing it by IP.

Followed your instructions. It just goes to my main site URL instead of the subdomain.

    1. Log into the WordPress Dashboard.
    2. In the side panel, go to Settings > Permalinks.
    3. Select the Default option.
    4. Click Save Changes.

    Does it work now?

I changed the permalinks to the default option. It still not has changed anything with the site. I wonder if this has to do with the fact that this is a temporary domain.

Could you post your .htaccess file so that I can see it?
