• Hi,
I have changed to a multisite network at the beginning of this week and experienced a few issues, most have now been resolved setting up A record, wildcard for subdomains, registering my super admin user for access to sub domains without having to log in separately but my main issue is still present and I am unable to find a solution.
When I log in to my network dashboard i know have the drop down to show my sites in the top left hand corner of the dashboard, if I select the main site I used to move to multisite it works perfectly i can visit the dashboard see the plugin, themes etc and then switch back to network admin dashboard no problem. If i select either of the sub domains i have set up within the multisite network I can go to there dashboard and visit the site but as soon as i do I can no longer see the sites option in the left hand corner only the name of the subdomain i am now on with no way back to the network dashboard?
I host with hostgator and they simply say they do not offer support for multisite so I am now left wondering where to go for assistance to resolve this issue.
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice on where to go for help
    Caroline

  • Browser back button doesn’t get you back to the network admin page?

Let me ask you this also… Did you have to install WordPress again for your subsites?

You mentioned needing to register the superadmin to the subsites which makes me think you really don’t have subsites under your main WordPress. You can map a subdomain into the Network yet have the site present outside the network. I’ve done that myself for convenience a few times.

What happens would be you click the link to the page in the Network dashboard where the web browser tries to reach the site, DNS points the browser at the server, the server control panel then points Apache at the subdirectory holding the second install and you’ll then see the website on the second install instead of the network.

What makes me think this might be the case is your second website ‘not’ recognizing the superadmin until you joined that account to your subsite. A Networked site should recognize the superadmin.

Thank you for coming back to me, this all makes sense in the way the subsites are working in the network and yes i had to do a separate install for wordpress for the subsites.
Where do i go about looking for what i have done wrong on the install of multisite ?
