• I’ve just started using WordPress to create a website for my father-in-law’s small business. I’m currently using the TwentyTen theme. I was wondering if there was a way to have site navigation both at the top (as is the default setting) and along the left side of the page. As it’s for a retail business, I’d like the top navigation to include Home, Contact, Directions, Promotions, etc. and the left navigation to be exclusively for products (so a customer could click on a particular product category and navigate to the correct page). So far I’ve had no luck trying to figure it out on my own – is this simply a limitation of the theme, or is there a way to manipulate it?

    Thanks for your help.

  • The TwentyTen theme is a 2 column theme (i.e. content and right sidebar). So you would either have to customize the theme to include a navigation menu on the left, or find a more suitable theme with the layout structure you require (might be an easier option).

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes.
