We have used the plugin to create pop-up galleries on the site. Which went well for the first few months of the site being up.

A few plugin updates, WordPress updates, and hours of chasing the plugin around fixing everything which broke or fell off later, I’m getting pretty sick of constantly trying to fix it every few days.

The plugin opens a pop-up whenever a section with the matching class is clicked (“Visit Kenya” section on the provided page. Also set up in the same way on many other pages and page types). There are hundreds of these so as much as I’d love to use a more reliable plugin, the amount of work involved in recreating them all would be ridiculous, and I’d much rather you take a look and let me know how this can be fixed or why it keeps breaking.

There are no error messages and the plugin works fine every time I clear either the hosting or Cloudflare caches, but this lasts a couple of hours at most. I keep going back to the client to tell her it has been fixed just to hear back from her the same day so she can tell me it has broken again.

I’ve tried hundreds of different fixes which, of course, all work. Deactivating plugins: Works. Clearing caches: Works. Updating all plugins: Works. So I’ll finalize the fix, find workarounds for the things I had to remove because of it, get everything up and running again, and check it all still works. Yep, all still working, success!

…But not even a day later it will be broken again.

I can’t determine how to fix it because it is so frustratingly inconsistent!

    What do I do?

  • Hi @gildrfransmar

    Thank you for contacting us.
We are working on the improvements, bug fixes and we try to implement those in the updates that we are having.
Those improvements are connected with the loading speeds and other issues that can be caused by our plugin.
We have checked the message of yours and the problem was very strange for us.
Can you please let us know more details so that we can figure out what can cause the issue?
Please check this version, replaced it with the one you have, and let us know how it went. Also, make sure that this option is unchecked: https://prnt.sc/s8icty

    Hello,

It is now the following day and, as you instructed, I have removed the existing Popup Builder plugin and replaced it with the version you provided. I have cleared server and browser caches, as well as viewing the site on incognito using both a broadband connection and a 4G connection, unfortunately it is still not working.

I am not sure what further information I could give you which might help to identify the cause of the issue, as I myself have been unable to do so, but I will try to explain in perfect detail what has happened over time as well as how the plugin is being implemented…

When the plugin was first installed, it was working fine and we were very pleased with how it was doing its job. However, over time it started to behave more strangely. The first issue which I was unable to resolve was that some pages which have 2 pop-ups will only display one of them.

For example, say a page has pop-up A and pop-up B, if you click pop-up B first, you will never be able to view pop-up A until the cache is cleared. Once the cache is cleared, if you click pop-up A, you can then never view pop-up B.

You can see an example of this at “/zarafa-camp/”. In the sidebar on the right, there is a “My Rating” title with a small blue icon next to it. This small blue icon opens another pop-up providing information on the rating system. This pop-up is the same on all pages, and is also triggered using an on-click class-name of “.rating-info”. You’ll see that it, too, does not currently work.

After spending hours trying to resolve it, I had to leave this issue to resolve for later as other more important issues were coming up. Unfortunately though, eventually, the pop-ups stopped displaying at all. By clearing caches, the pop-ups would usually begin displaying again but after a short amount of time, they would stop working once more.

The last thing I did to fix the site was to remove WPOptimize as I noticed that the galleries would work with ?ao_noptimize=1 at the end of the URL. I cleared the caches and reported back to the client that the galleries were working but by the time she was able to check, they had stopped working again!

We have these pop-up galleries on most pages on the site. The example page we sent has a section titled “Visit Kenya” which has cursor: pointer CSS on it, indicating that it should be clickable. It is assigned the class “.kenya-gallery” which is being used by the popup builder plugin as the on-click trigger for displaying the appropriate Kenya Gallery.

This same setup is used on many destination, accommodation, and region pages (including a few others) and each one has it’s own “.[name]-gallery” class section and a popup assigned to open when that class is clicked.

As I said, this used to work fine but now does not. I hope that maybe this additional and in-depth explanation will help you to identify what the cause may be. If there is some secure way for me to provide you with login details which you can use to take a look for yourself, then please let me know and I’d be happy to do that.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated as I have been having trouble with this plugin for far too long now.
