    hy david,

unfortunately we can not assure compatibility with wpml/polylang so far. if you want to get it to work somehow, the first thing i would advice you is to use different domains or subdomains for your languages. since our plugin deals with the url as well as translation plugins do with /de or /en, this is a very high risk for failure.

after that, you could try to map the addon-domains to the corresponding content (although our plugin will not detect the language-main domains by default).

if you are willing to invest in a custom solution, i guess we could find a way. we have already found a tailored solution for a similar issue one client had. but we would only deal with polylang, since i really do not like wpml (interface, performance, support).

so please try it out with the language-domain approach and if it does not work feel free to write us an email where we can talk about another solution.

    Hi matt,

thanks a lot for your quick response.

we could invest in a custom solution, but we could not change to Polylang as we have already translated a lot of our content with WPML…

so i will try the subdomain approach – but I am not sure how to handle it.
    bergsteiger-pontresina.ch is German.
I can set en.bergsteiger-pontresina.ch for the English translations in WPML.
Now – how can I map the translated content to en.bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch?
    Can I map en.bergsteiger-pontresina.ch/davosklosters to en.bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch?

Just want to make sure this would be the approach you would suggest.

    Thank you,
    David

    hy david,

it is only an approach but it could work like this:

use bergsteiger-pontresina.ch as your main, german domain.
use en.gergsteiger-pontresina.ch for your main, english subdomain.

map bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch to /davosklosters (the german version)
map en.bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch to /EnglishSlugOfDavosKlosters (the english version)

for this to work, you will need different slugs for your pages/posts in english and german, which should be possible with polylang as far as i know.

let me know how it is doing 😉

    Hey matt

I asked the guys from WPML if it’s possible to use different slugs for the translations. This would be possible and your approach should work. But the guy had another idea, which is more simple and seems to work great with your plugin.

Changing the URL format to parameter instead of directory or subdomain:
WPML > Settings > Language URL format > Select “Language name added as a parameter”

Thanks a lot for your help,
    David

    hy david,

ah yes – sometimes the simple solutions work best and are so hard to see 😉
great to hear it is working now.

if you use our plugin for commercial purposes, we are always happy about a donation on matthias-wagner.at to maintain plugin support 🙂

    best,
    matt
