I’ve read this http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Changing_Your_Domain_Name_and_URLs and am in the middle of downloading my files (taking a very long time) and I’m wondering if there’s not an easier way to do this.

I have my root site, and then this site was a subdirectory inside of it (eg root.com and root.com/newsite). I’ve now got a new domain name for root.com/newsite so that it’ll just be newsite.com. I’m not moving the files or changing hosting accounts. I tried changing the URLs in the settings, but although it gave me the correct homepage, the other pages gave errors and it would also redirect to wp-admin as if it were still in the subdirectory.

So.. is there any way I can change the URL of the site without this lengthy process? Can I not just change a few lines here and there?

  • What hosting are you on , Windows or Linux? If you have cPanel then you can just point the domain to the sub-directory. In WordPress just use the domain name for Home and URL.

That seemed to have got it working, though it was pretty much what I did before so maybe I’d made a mistake the first time or something wasn’t loading properly. Thanks!

That’s great …please mark this resolved.
