• This may be a dumb question, so sorry in advance. I’m looking to move my site to a different theme and I’m trying to determine what the best way to do this is. I’m guessing installing another wordpress instance on my site and getting everything setup before directing traffic to that site? Would this be the easiest way? How would I accomplish this..any information and guidance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

You mean a separate installation of WP for testing purposes? Yes, You can install a test WP in a separate directory with its own db.
That way you can test, fine tune, or tweak the theme to make sure it works the way you want.

How does that work when I have all my media saved in another directory? Do I have to upload all my media again? Thanks!

I personally keep the test site separate. That way I can really test everything before trying on the live site.

The test site is going to replace my current live site, it’s just going to be a different theme. So you would export all the media files and upload them to the new test site?

You can. But you will need to change the URLs from pointing to the test site to the live site.

    Check out plugins like:

Also, to lessen headach, make sure:

1.That the NEW site is already running the same Theme, and all appropriate Plugins.

I am very confused, I used tutorial and installed wordpress using WAMP. From my understanding it is a test site, how do I make it a real thing? I am having no luck finding any tutorials or links that would help. I already have a blog, I exported it to my test site, but my test site isn’t showing anything when I click “view my site”. I changed themes, but it won’t show me anything.
Please point me in the right direction.

thank you, will be spending some time trying out and reading up on the topics.

svitlanas, anyone who uses LAMP, MAMP, WAMP, etc for local development can easily put it on a real live server by moving the files to the appropriate directory under the web root directory. Also, notice that the database will have to be exported from the local site and imported into the real site on the server.

Does anyone know how to export/import all of my woocommerce items..variations, attributes, etc. And then have them link to my existing products like I currently have setup? I was able to import my existing products but currently the images are not linked, the variations not setup, etc.

Did you export the product info from WooCommerce as CSV?

@mhgrafix: If you require assistance then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. This topic has nothing to do with Woocommerce.

    My apologies. πŸ™‚

Nevertheless this is a question that needs to be asked in the dedicated Woocommerce sub-forum.
