• Hello, my company used to host its website with parallels and they wanted to redo the site, we can log onto parallels with no issue but not into wordpress under the wp-admin and we couldn’t reset the password because we don’t know which email it is going to (probably a very old email), we created a new site and hosted it with bluehost and changed the dns pointing to the new site, the old site disappeared and we can no longer get to it but we need to create a backup of it and make sure we have a local copy before cancelling our parallels hosting, how can we access the old site and get a copy of it (back it up)?

  • You’ll need to login to your old hosting and copy the files and database there – see:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

(not all of those methods will work – use the ones that don’t require access to your WP Dashboard)

Thanks, I did the steps through FTP and it downloaded worth 200MB of data, but I could not restore it in my local wordpress (through webmatrix) to verify if its all there, any idea how I can import it into my local wordpress?

FTP does not backup your database – do you have a copy of the content?

I don’t know that webmatrix will import or export – you’ll have to look at the documentation or try setting up XAMPP on your local computer.

saritsupport…I found this free plugin yesterday that I used to move 6 of my sites over to dreamhost…. https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/installation/ It was very easy, so much so that I was skeptical that it would actually work, but it worked great. I used it to export my site then I installed wordpress and the plugin on the new site and then imported the old site.

Thanks dbarrett; the problem is I can’t access my old site wordpress in order to install the pluggin, all i can access is the host on Parallels along with the host folders! is there a way that wordpress can point me to the old site then reset my password to it in order to access, install the plugin, then backup. all help is much appreciated.

No, WordPress has no connection or info related to your site. If you have access to your account on Parallels, you can export your database using phpMyAdmin – see:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups#Accessing_phpMyAdmin

Also copy your site files from the server – sounds like you already copied that?
