Moving site from /wordpress folder to root

Ok, so I’ve been working on a site http://www.example.com/wordpress where all the files are in the wordpress folder.

Now I want the site to go live so to speak, Is this is straightforward? Can I just drag the contents of the /wordpress folder out into the root? or will that screw up links etc.

I’m sure this is a common question but any help would be greatly appreciated
