Moving server – anything I should know?

    Hello!

    I’ve only just learnt about your plugin as we have inherited a website that we are migrating to our servers, and your plugin is installed.

    With no experience of your plugin, is there anything I should be doing when migrating? Is it safe to do so? Is there a way to see if the plugin is actually being used, and if so, do I have to re-add or convert keys when migrated, or is this already taken care of?

    This works flawlessly. I do it all the time for testing. EXCEPTION: if a legacy version of MySQL (5.6 or before) or MariaDB (10.1 or before) is the TARGET of the migration.

    I migrate databases from server to server a lot (MySQL <-> MariaDB, and between versions of either of those). It’s part of my testing workflow to do that. I use a mysqldump -> restore process for this.

    The only place I had a problem was when I migrated FROM any 5.7 or later version of the database TO a 5.6 or earlier version.

    That’s a really weird thing to do in production. (I do it for testing purposes, making sure this plugin works with those legacy versions [ Redacted: Rant about supporting historic versions ].

    And in that situation it always works to revert the high-performance keys before migrating, and re-add them afterward. Always works.
