Moving Development Site to Public_HTML

Hi,

I have been developing a site on a sub-domain and I am now ready to move to the live public site. I have copied all files over to Public_HTML/ but when I try to import the database from sub-domain into a new, live database on mySQL, I get an error saying the database already exists.

Am I thinking about this in the wrong way, and the live and staging sites use the same database? Or is my new database not in the right place? Or am I totally off base here… 🙁

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
