• Hi

I installed WordPress using Fantastico into http://www.mysite.com/blog and now, like many people, I want to move it to the root. I’ve read up on this doc http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_to_a_New_Server_with_Fantastico but I’m still a bit unsure and would like some advice as that doc implies a move to a new server and I just want to move directories.

Do I just need to make a new installation using Fantastico into the root of my site?
Do I need to choose a new DB name or can I use the existing one?
Do I need to do any find & replace on the URLs in the database?
It says, “Drop (delete) the database tables of the pre-installed Fantastico web. “. I’m not sure what this means exactly, how do I do it?

Thanks in advance for your help

    tG

    I’ve just read this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

I guess that would be easier wouldn’t it? Are there any drawbacks? Basically I want to host a static wordpress page as my front page and I want it to be in the root of my site. I ten want my posts page to be in http://www.mysite.com/blog. I figured I would have to reinstall WP to the root to achieve this but can I achieve it following the instructionsin the above link? I’m wondering whether WP will just redirect from the root of my site to mysite.com\blog where it hopes to find the static home page and then my posts page will be in mysite.com\blog\blog, which is not how I want it.

    those instructions will work fine
to get a static home page – create the page
    go to
    admin – settings – reading
choose that page for static home

now create an empty page called “Blog”
assign that page to be your posts page at same spot

which instructions? the first lot or the second lot?

I have already done the static home page thing but because my installation resides in site,com/blog that is where the home page is and the posts page is at site.com/blog/blog. I want to move everything up a level and would like to know if this requires a full move of the installation or whether I can use the second method.
