Month and Date uploads or not

    I’ve been told by my host that it’s better to have the uploads in their month/date directories as opposed to having them all in one level. A client of mine has over 20,000 images (Yes, I know!!!) and at the moment they’re all at one level.

    Would it be better for speed etc if they were in date/month directories?

    If you’re going to have LOTS of files in one directory, its possible to run out of inodes (depending on operating system configuration), so opt for the month/year folders. It won’t affect speed. (Oh, one wishes for a better file management system!)
