Mod Rewrite rules cannot be updated! // .htaccess issue

    hi gang

    when using this option:
    WP Super Cache Settings
    Advanced
    Caching
    Use mod_rewrite to serve cache files. (Recommended)

    i cannot seem to get the plugin to work. it keeps reporting this message

    “Rewrite rules must be updated

    The rewrite rules required by this plugin have changed or are missing. Scroll down the Advanced Settings page and click the Update Mod_Rewrite Rules button.”

    .htaccess i 755 and i have pasted the code by hand
    (wordwrapp of… of course)

    Cannot update .htaccess
    The file /.htaccess cannot be modified by the web server. Please correct this using the chmod command or your ftp client.

    Refresh this page when the file permissions have been modified.

    i am stumped.
    directory and file are 755 chmod

    when i select
    Use PHP to serve cache files.
    it works fine

    any idea what is wrong here?

    Hi,
    Have you got your issue solved!?
    I believe you have the same problem like me.
    I guess you have the wordpress installed in a folder on your server but your site is on the root of your server.
    I saw on my website that if I am pointing it to the same folder, where the wordpress is located, the Mod Rewrite rules works fine.
    Unfortunately, I get the name of my folder in my permalinks:
    http://www.pixazy.com/pixazy/

    I am waiting for a solution too.

    You could try updating the mod_rewrite rules manually? If the paths aren’t exactly right fix them while adding them.

    The plugin tries to deal with as many hosting permutations as possible but sometimes it trips over and fails.
