    Hi
Last night I finally launched my new website (after 3 weeks of struggle with Kadence new architecture), only to realise in shock and horror that I forgot to set up Mobile Navigation. A friend let me know that the menu on the phone has some strange items that are not linked to anything. I quickly put my site back into Maintenance Mode and started working on it – which has opened a whole new Pandora’s box because what is shown in your resource article is not what is actually happening on my site.

I always work on my desktop PC and browse websites only on computer, never on the phone, so this has unfortunately escaped me.

I spent all day today with Chat GPT trying every possible angle – as I cannot figure out what is wrong based on your article, which skips some important steps and got me completely lost.

    Key issues:
    1. The tablet/mobile menu shows 3 generic items (about, blog, contact) not linked to anything, not my proper menu, in spite of all the settings I know about being correctly set up. I even created a new menu called Mobile Navigation separate to the Main Menu I use in desktop view, and selected it in as my mobile menu in Customiser – still doesn’t work.

    2. The menu slides open from the Left in spite of being setup from the Right.

    3. Is it possible to have the menu opening down vertically from the menu icon on the right side (most common approach) instead of horizontally covering up the full phone screen and most of the tablet screen?

    3. It is unclear in your article on Mobile Navigation whether the set up and customisation (background colour, font size and colour, menu width) should be done in Mobile Navigation or Off-Canvas. Not knowing Kadence well, I am unable to fill in the many information gaps. There is no advice how to fix the menu not linking in or sliding from the opposite side to the one selected when all the settings look right, which indicates a bug.

Could someone advise how to fix this please as I have run out of options.

    Thanks
    Anna

    Hi Anna,

I’m really sorry you ran into this right after launch.

From what you described, it sounds like the mobile header settings may not be syncing properly on the frontend. This can sometimes happen because of caching, or because another header setup is overriding the mobile settings.

To help check this properly, could you please share a link to your website so I can see what’s happening on mobile?

If you prefer not to share the site link here, you can open a support ticket instead:

Once we can review the site, we can help identify the cause of the issue.

Regarding your question about having the mobile menu open downward from the menu icon, Kadence Mobile Navigation is not designed to work that way. It uses the Off Canvas panel, which slides in from the side rather than opening as a dropdown below the icon.

    hi @bonnstellar

    Thanks for your reply.
My site is in the Maintenance Mode, as I can’t make it public with the mobile menu not working as 95% of people open websites on a mobile device. This is not a tweak but a major issue with the site on mobile devices.

I protected the site with a password (with Password Protected plugin) which would allow you to see the frontend and access the Inspector. Unfortunately, when tested in a private window, the plugin doesn’t work. Sorting out why and troubleshooting this plugin is the additional headache I don’t need or have time for.

Even if I send you the link to my website in a ticket, you still need to have access to the frontend.

Can you suggest please how this can be done without removing the site from the maintenance mode.

    thanks

That sounds really frustrating, especially after launching the site. Mobile navigation issues are easy to miss when testing mostly on desktop. I faced a similar issue while working on https://nbiappointment.online, where menu settings behaved differently on mobile view. Hopefully Kadence provides a clearer fix and better documentation for these common problems.

Yes, Bonn has helped me fix all the issues. I couldn’t have done it without his help.
