Hello,
I need to migrate a Joomla site, just articles and the meta values associated with that article such as author, published date, hits, attached images, and I need to migrate it to a custom post type within WordPress.

Would I need the pro version for this and once the migration is done, would I have to then manually assign these imported articles to the new custom post type within WordPress?

The published date and the attached images can be migrated with the free version.
But to migrate the authors, you need the Premium version: https://www.fredericgilles.net/fg-joomla-to-wordpress/
To migrate the hits, you also need the WP-PostViews add-on: https://www.fredericgilles.net/fg-joomla-to-wordpress/wp-postviews/

To convert the imported articles to a custom post type, you can do it afterwards with the Post Type Switcher plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-type-switcher/
