Regarding your concern, when you optimize one of your site’s pages/posts for a focus keyphrase, this does not add any additional metadata to your page. The focus keyphrase feature is only an analysis of your page’s content to optimize the keyphrase’s usage and density within the page’s content, as well as other metadata (title, meta description, slug, etc).
As for meta keywords, since they have not been used by most search engines for a long time, we chose to no longer include them as a feature of the plugin. We explain in further detail in this article.
If you wish to optimize your page for a keyword, we recommend using the focus keyphrase feature of the Yoast SEO plugin.
