• Hi. My webhost installed WP without any issue and I had my blog up and running. I successfully followed the instructions in the Codex to give WP its own directory while existing in the default folder that the web host put it in.

Then I thought I’d get fancy. I wanted to change the name of the folder that WP was in to the name of the blog. I thought that following the instructions on “Moving WordPress” should work. The first thing to do, it said was to change the WP address and blog address to the new name. I did that, and got an immediate error message. Now, no matter whether the name of the folder is the new name or the old name, I can’t log in to my blog and it displays without any coherent template. I’ve searched through the docs and haven’t been able to figure out what to do (and don’t want to mess things up any more than I already have).

I’m sure that dumbass newbies such as myself have done this kind of thing many times before. I’d appreciate some help getting my blog back. Thanks.

  • 1. If you change the 2 URI values in the admin panel – it is normal to get an error message after saving the options.
The mistake in this case is: trying to “see” the blog.
Instead, you have to go to your FTP client and rename the folder.
AFTER that you should look at your site.
    That’s it.

    2. If you screwed it up more ‘royally’… then follow this tutorial and set the values to whatever you need: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

Thanks very much. After mucking around for a bit, I decided to delete the blog and re-install. That seems to be working just fine.
