This is something that has happened since the last time I touched a site a few months ago. The menus page on the dashboard will only load the first column, which makes it useless. It churns for a long time, then finally seems to time out. Firebug shows this script error:
ReferenceError: columns is not defined
It happens in Firefox, IE, and Chrome, exactly the same way. I’ve disabled all the plugins and cleared the cache. Nothing seems to help. I’m on 3.5.1.
Nothing looks amiss on the site, only on the dashboard.
Should I assume that there will be no answers for this problem? If I’m leaving out some needed information, I’d appreciate a hint. I am completely unable to update menus on this site without this page.
I’ve updated to 3.5.2 with no help, and I’ve also updated a test version of the same site on the same host and it has the same problem.
Have you tried deactivating ALL plugins and switching to the default theme?
Assuming that 2010, 2011 or 2012 is the default theme. I tried all three.
Can we see your site using the default Twenty Twelve theme with all plugins deactivated?
If you’d like to see the admin interface, I could send you privately a login. I hate to do that on an open forum.
There’s a sister site, http://european-experiences.com, that uses the same themes and plugins (on the same host) and works perfectly.
Which menu? Luberonexperience.com has 11 main menu items with 13 subitems. european-experiences.com has quite a few more (and it works fine). Is there a limit on what WP will handle?
I’ve had a response back from livingdot.com that they think it is a server problem, although they haven’t identified it yet.
Is there a limit on what WP will handle?
No but there might be a limit on what your server can handle. See http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/14134
