menu partially not working
-
Before it was working, but since some time the menu stopped linking to the pages.
Strange enough all links in the sub-menus are working, only the main menu does not show links (except home). Both desktop and mobile.
In the editor the menu seems ok and all the links are there, and the links work (except for one, see below)And this one page looks ok in the backend, slug is ok, but it is just not seem reachable, also not by direct link or a link in the back-end.

Somebody an idea or suggestion?-

Hi,
I’m not an expert here, but I had some trouble with links in the main menu myself, and maybe offer some general advice…
As for the menu: as far as I can see (inspected with google dev tools), all menu items except HOME have no link associated, only submenu items. If this is not what you want: are you sure you have really set a link on the top menu item? Please check your nav block settings once more, if the link is really set on the right item.
If you really want to do this (top menu items with links AND submenu next to top menu items with just submenu), there are some things to pay attention to:
- TT4 is not always consistent in the way how links are represented by default (some are not underlined and become underlined upon hover, as with the menu items, in other cases it is the opposite, e.g. in plain text links are underlined and upon hover the underline disappers). This is especially confusing for what you want to achieve and needs to be corrected manually
- In order to check if the menu structure is correct, I suggest you use keyboard navigation only, because there is a clear difference in focus for the link related to a menu item and the expand of the submenu (the latter focuses on the little downward arrow next to the menu item). Do NOT rely on hover effects to judge if it is a link! If you tab through the menu items with keyboard navigation, main menu items with link AND submenu will first focus on the menu item and then on the downward arrow
- My test page is an example of different kinds of menu items combined in one menu: HOME and FOTOGALERIE are links only, VEREINE has a link and submenu items, all others have only submenu items (no links). If you tab through the menu in keyboard navigation, you can see what I mean
- the link for the main menu item must (should?) be different from the links of the corresponding submenu items
As for the one page that is not working: obviosly it produces a fatal error and the corresponding code is only executed on this page. Some hints for further investigation:
- are you using a plugin only on this page? if yes, deactivate the plugin and try again
- are you using custom php code only on this page?
- are you using custom CSS code for a block and the block is only on this page?
- is it (maybe accidentally) password protected? Although I doubt this would be correct behaviour for PW protected pages…
- check for anything that is unique on this page, and try to delete/deactivate it one by one…you get the point
Hope that helps
