• Hi,

I have a WP 5.3 site with the plugins as listed at the bottom of this. Recently, I have been getting several memory issues and I give a selection of these messages also below.

These cause the server to stop and I have to do a Force Restart via the console to recover. Which isn’t good.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what might be the cause or what I can do?

What I can infer is that all the errors are when various pieces are asking for more memory. There is a 40MB ceiling on memory for the site. I could increase that but will that then get blown a little further down the line?

The site is not terribly busy as it is new and we are trying to grow the business. I was editing an Envira Gallery at the time of the issue. The only two other people with any type of sign on were with me and were not doing anything. Clearly, users could have been looking at the front end.

    Many Thanks

If you’re seeing this error either suddenly (no specific task was done to cause the error) or frequently, try deactivating all plugins to rule-out a plugin-specific issue and try switching themes to rule-out a theme-specific issue.

Otherwise, here are three ways to increase PHP’s memory allocation:

    1. If you can edit or override the system php.ini file, increase the memory limit. For example, memory_limit = 128M

    2. If you cannot edit or override the system php.ini file, add php_value memory_limit 128M to your .htaccess file.

    3. If neither of these work, it’s time to ask your hosting provider to temporarily increase PHP’s memory allocation on your account. Keep in mind that most decent hosting providers allow users to temporarily increase the memory allocation. If your hosting provider won’t accommodate you, perhaps it’s time to find a new hosting provider. We have some recommendations at https://wordpress.org/hosting/

(in the above examples, the limit is set to 128MB)
