    Hi,

    I’m new to WordPress.

With regards to the Media Settings should I leave them at Default?

I’ve been uploading my images to the Media Library and then inserting them on my pages at full-size, is this the best method?

I’m using Elementor Pro page builder if that make any difference?

I always thought it was best to upload an image at the size that I intend to use it, to keep the file size down. However, is it better for responsive design to upload a bigger image so WP can generate lots of sizes?

Most of my images will probably be 500x? and for hero image 1920x? Surely it would be better to upload them at that size rather than any size and then ask WP to change the sizes for me?

Is it true to say that I should always use the default images sizes creates by WP, otherwise, if I use the full-size images directly on the page Responsive Images will never work?

    Thank you

    Steve

Correct. Upload at the largest size you will use. WP will take care of responsive issues for smaller views. You don’t want browsers to scale up images, because they’ll pixelate, but there’s no need to upload hugely wide or tall images if your theme will never display them at that full size.

If you know you may need specific smaller sizes (like you want your thumbnail something other than 150px squares), you could change the settings under “media”.

    Thanks Steve.

To clarify. If I’m uploading and inserting an image on a page that’s 500×300, there is no need to change the Media Settings? For example, Medium Size to 500×200 ?

    Thank you

    Oh……….

So it perfectly fine to use full-size images directly on the page, it won’t break the clever Responsive Images thing that WP does?

Nope. Inspect the image and you’ll see the SRCSET string there.
