Media library | Count is incorrect

    The dropdownlist available in the Media Library shows an incorrect amount of images.
    I’ve noticed that for each uploaded image several copies in different sizes are made but it still doesn’t add up.

    When verifying this through FTP, it should be around 3700 but it shows more then 5300 images in the dropdownlist.

    The count just above the grid shows 211 images.

    What could be the cause of this?
