• Is there a maximum length to a page, or a maximum number of pictures allowed?

Every time I add new pictures, others disappear. Is there a way to increase these limitations?

My past banners page is the page in question. I’d like to be able to display all of my previous banners here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,
I don’t think there’s really any limit per se. But I can tell you that your page already loads VERY slowly, and this is a good way to annoy your visitors. Better someone tells you that than everyone just quietly opting out.

So I would suggest just judiciously choosing which photos to show, and not have too many. Or you can use a photo gallery instead, which does not have to load every photo when you go to the page. There are many plugins for that.

Is there a maximum length to a page,

    No

or a maximum number of pictures allowed?

In theory, no but in reality, too many images on a page can slow the page download/display considerably. In some cases, the page script can time out so that only some of the images are displayed.

My past banners page is the page in question.

The current page works fine for me but if you are intending to add many more banners, you might want to paginate the page so people only have to download a dozen or so images at a time.

@flamenco, how can I speed up my page? It seems very fast for me.
How would I add a photo gallery?

@esmi, what is ‘paginate’ and how to I do it?

Oh and thank you for the responses.

To clarify, it isn’t just when the page is loading that images disappear. They are gone from my editor as well.

I think Esmi and I replied at the same instant. 🙂 She is the guru!

Oh wow, images disappearing from your editor… no idea about that, sorry.

I am actually not a fan of photo galleries, as my photo needs are very simple – I usually just use the Auto Thickbox, which is the lighest gallery around. But for a photographer, or a site with lots of photos, some organization and fancier features would be good. If you have the latest WP, in admin, go to Plugins… Add new (top of page), and click (or search on) Photos… all kinds of goodies will appear that you can install. NextGen is very popular and full of features. (it’s way overkill for me).

I like Esmi’s idea of pagination. From the Plugin interface you could search on “paginate”. But I guess that doesn’t solve your disappearance problem.

I do have a random idea – did you delete any of the pictures from your Media library? Some people do that, not realizing that this takes those photos out of your posts. Oh no, of COURSE, you didn’t do that. 🙂

what is ‘paginate’ and how to I do it?

The page you referenced appears to be a WordPress Page, yes? If so, you can split a long page down into multiple sub-pages using the <!nextpage--> tag.
