Hello again, my helpful friends! :o)

Thanks again for your swift and accurate response to my last query.

I have another for you, if you please.

I have a site which has been created with WP. I already have one Web guy doing work, but I’m phasing him down and he’s OK with that.

I’m adding a new Webmaster, and he, of course, needs an admin account. Is there some way I can have something like a master admin account that he and the other guy can’t change to lock me out? I don’t think this will ever happen, but it won’t hurt to be a bit cautious.

Also, my new guy wants FTP/Cpanel access; does he need that?

    Thanks again! :o)

An admin is an admin. So, no, you can’t have a “master” admin. If you don’t trust the guy, don’t hire him.

As someone who works on sites, I always want cpanel and FTP access. I want cpanel in case I need to use phpmyadmin to look at the DB. I need FTP so I can move files from my PC up and down and so I can restore a backup just in case I do something unfortunate.

my new guy wants FTP/Cpanel access; does he need that?

They need it, but check with your host; some offer you the option to give an “account executive” level of access to other users that gives them what they need, but not the option to lock you out of the hosting account, as you will still hold “master” access to the Cpanel account. I know GoDaddy offers an account executive feature; other hosts may.

As for WordPress admin, all admins are equal. But havng master Cpanel access will give you the ability to remove them from WordPress admin and give yourself a new WordPress admin account (via the database) if the worst happens and you lose admin control of WordPress.

First off, hello and thanks to Steve. I do trust this guy pretty-much, as he’s done a little SEO work for me recently, and we have chatted about family, etc. on Skype. Gotta take some risks. Thanks.

And Mark…thanks to you also. :o) I do have a “private line” to my hosting company, which is my email address. I’ve been with them for 10+ years, and if there were any issues, they’d stand by me.

So, thanks again for your kind help, both of you. :o)
