massive spam

    good day,

    I’ve written before and have followed your instructions and waited for the spam to abate, but it is showing no sign of slowing down.
    I have a recent version of WP (3.5.1), 1.16.0 dmsguestbook, WP-SpamFree and have Akismet turned on.

    I’ve been using dmsguestbook for a long time and before I move to another guestbook I wanted to see if you could take a look and see if there is a particular reason this is happening. I really like the plugin very much, but don’t have the time to sort through spam everyday.

    I have over 5000 spam entries in the last 90 days.

    Hope you can assist.

    Hi, have you activated reCAPTCHA in DMSGuestbook?

    If yes, some things could help to solve this problem:

    1) Delete all your reCAPTCHA keys on http://www.google.com/recaptcha, it could be your keys are not longer secure.

    2) Have you ever shared your WP password or have you other admin accounts on your WP installation? In doubt, change all passwords.

    3) I saw WP-SpamFree is not longer supported

    4) If it’s possible: Install DMSGuestbook with reCAPTCHA and Akismet without any other plugins to see whether the spam storm is continued.

    I have been using the mathematical captcha and Akismet, and still getting 8-10 spam submissions a day, pretty consistently.

    I just switched to the reCaptcha, generated keys today, and will see if this slows the spam submissions.

    Side question – and maybe this needs to be a separate thread – can I change the css for the reCaptcha display to change the color to better match the site?

    Insert this piece of code at the beginning of dmsguestbook.php:

    <script type="text/javascript">
 var RecaptchaOptions = {
    theme : 'white'
 };
</script>

    and your reCAPTCHA will be white.
