Hi there,
I wouldn’t edit /css/style.css as your edits will be removed when you update.
Either use a child theme or a custom css plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/
The CSS you’re looking for is:
.inside-header {padding-top:0;padding-bottom:0}
You also might be interested in our spacing addon, that lets you control all spacing within the theme, including the header: http://www.generatepress.com/downloads/generate-spacing/

Thanks very much! I do like your theme quite a bit and will definitely consider some add-ons.
Sorry, I wasn’t more clear, I wasn’t updating that /css/style.css file directly, just looking for the code to paste and edit in to a Custom CSS tool. Also, I always make a child theme for that reason 🙂

Hi,
I am new to WordPress and like the features of the GeneratePress template. Which is what I am using with all the add ons. What I am trying to do is add widgets to the header in a similar fashion as the widgets in the footer. Meaning 3 to 4 widgets lined up horizontally and being able to control or adjust their width and height. Do you have another add-on that can help with that or is there another way to approach this. If there is another way can you advise how it should be accomplished.

Hi Mike,
I do have an addon planned that will add widgets similar to the footer to above the content.
For now, you can use GP Hooks to add HTML in the header, creating columns that you can add content to.
To get the columns to work, you can use the unsemantic framework which is included in GeneratePress: http://unsemantic.com/css-documentation#2-grid-classes
